Hi All

We have been made aware that some people are having trouble getting their seasonal flu vaccine. To confirm, the information published by the Department of Health (DH) states that you should consider having the seasonal flu vaccine if you have lowered immunity due to disease or treatment.

This is a link to the seasonal flu vaccination information on the DH website:
http://www.dh.gov.uk/hea...sonal-flu-vaccinations/

We also received a letter earlier this year, from the Chief Medical Officer of the DH, urging us to encourage our members to have the seasonal flu vaccine. If you are having trouble getting the vaccine please feel free to print a copy of this letter from the DH to take with you to your GP, and ask if you are eligible for the free jab:

Kind regards, and I wish you a flu-free Winter!

Thanks for posting this so soon after we chatted earlier Sarah, (and on FB too)

From reaction on FB it seems too common. I'm glad NRAS have the information direct from the DH should anyone be struggling to get it.

Thanks again!

I would strongly back up the advice to have the flu jab, and to fight hard to get it if you have difficulty at first. I got swine flu last winter and was absolutely floored for 3 whole weeks. I then developed pneumonia and had antibiotics. Over the following month I had tonsillitis and 3 different ear infections each requiring antibiotics. I was told that the bacterial infections were 'piggy back' infections which took advantage of my already weakened state. This year I made sure that I got the jab! Flu is the last thing we need when we're already trying to deal with RA and may have weakened immune systems due to our RA drugs.
